The Project area is located in Samegrelo-Zemo Upper Svaneti Region under Mestia Municipality. The Mestia Municipality occupies the upper part of the Enguri River watershed and is located between the elevations of 800 m and 5,000 m above sea level. Due to rich natural, cultural and historical assets the Upper Svaneti area is listed among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The Consultancy requires the Detailed Design of the headwork structure, fish way, sedimentation basin and forebay. The water from intake structure to the powerhouse is brought via a penstock (about 2,000 m long) which will pass along the left and right bank of the river. The powerhouse is equipped with Pelton turbines. The project includes the design of roads improvement, new bridges to cross the river and rockfall stabilizations to allow the local communities to normally exploit their activities.
