Header News M2O Project

Idrostudi is a partner of URBAN M2OEffective Monitoring and Modelling solutions for data-driven holistic management of URBAN water quality, a project funded under the Horizon Europe programme and coordinated by the Technical University of Denmark – DTU. The project aims to develop innovative solutions to improve the monitoring, modelling and management of water quality in urban systems.

Cities are today one of the most complex contexts for managing water pollution. Climate change, existing infrastructure, urban discharges, micropollutants, PFAS, microbiological contaminants and microplastics require increasingly integrated, timely and data-driven tools. URBAN M2O aims to address these challenges through advanced monitoring technologies, water quality models, harmonised data management systems and digital twins of urban water systems.

The project, launched with the kick-off meeting in Copenhagen on 11-12 June 2025, will last four years and brings together European partners from research, business, public administrations and the water sector. Its goal is to provide operational tools to support risk-based urban water quality management plans.

Within the partnership, Idrostudi contributes its experience in hydraulic and environmental engineering, monitoring, modelling, data analysis and the development of digital tools for the management of water and sewer systems. Participation in the project confirms the company’s commitment to promoting innovative and sustainable solutions for the digital transition of the water and wastewater sector.

URBAN M2O aims to:

  • generate reliable and usable information to identify critical pollution areas;
  • support decision-making by utilities and competent authorities
  • contribute to the protection of public health, the environment and biodiversity across Europe. 

The solutions developed will be demonstrated in real and operational case studies, representative of the different challenges faced by urban water infrastructure.

For Idrostudi, participation in URBAN M2O represents an important opportunity for international collaboration and for developing applied expertise on key topics for the future of cities: water quality, climate resilience, digitalisation, smart monitoring and integrated management of urban systems.
